What is Hide.me VPN?
Hide.me calls itself the “world’s fastest VPN.” The company offers customers access to more than 1,400 servers in 56 locations. Customers are not limited to how many times they can switch servers. The company provides customers both free and paid plans, but there are a couple of features that it includes in every plan.
All Hide.me VPN plans use 256-bit AES encryption, the same standard used by US government agencies like the FBI and the CIA. The company also says that there are multiple VPN protocols, protection from IP leaks, and an automatic kill-switch that kicks in if your browsing session is interrupted. Hide.me also relies on split tunneling to help protect your personal information. Hide.me works with numerous devices, including:
- Amazon Fire TV
What stands out most about this VPN service? There are a few things that we found particularly noteworthy when we conducted our Hide.me VPN review.
Emphasis on Security
One of the things that stood out most was that Hide.me emphasizes security. With features such as 256-bit encryption, dedicated kill-switches, and split tunneling protocols, customers will have peace of mind knowing that their personal information is safe, even when connected to unsecured public WiFi.

Ease of Use
If you’re someone who is not familiar with VPNs, the thought of using one could be daunting. Fortunately, Hide.me’s platform is incredibly easy to use, making it the perfect fit for beginners. All you need to do to connect is click a button. Once connected, you’ll find that you can switch between networks easily. Both the desktop and mobile platforms are easy to use.
When conducting our Hide.me VPN review, there were also some things that stood out to us in a negative way.
One of the most glaring problems with Hide.me VPN is the fact that it does not perform well. We purchased a Premium plan to test the product, using a baseline download speed of 98 Mbps and upload speed of 53 Mbps.
When we tested a Hide.me United States server, the download speeds slowed to 17 Mbps, and the upload speeds plummeted to 10 Mbps. Results were a tad better on Amsterdam and London servers, with download speeds of 28 Mbps and upload speeds of 20 Mbps. Still, these were significant drop-offs from our initial baseline.
Limitations When on the Free Plan
If you are on the free version of Hide.me, you suffer significantly. Hide.me restricts the amount of data that you can use and how many connections you can have at any one time. The fact that you can have only one simultaneous connection when using the free version of this VPN pales in comparison to the industry average.
Average Customer Service
Hide.me’s customer service isn’t the worst, but it isn’t the best either. If you need assistance, you’ll find that the company offers support via email, a ticketing system, and live chat. Although you receive an answer quickly, the response isn’t that helpful. Solutions tend to be broad and all-encompassing. If you need answers to a specific question, you may need to chase it down or ask more than once.
There are two different options from that customers can choose from. The free plan provides customers with a single simultaneous connection on one of five worldwide servers. Additionally, customers are capped at a 2 GB daily data limit.
The Premium plan, on the other hand, provides customers with many more options. There are no restrictions on how much data customers can transfer. Customers will also have access to five simultaneous connections in any of the company’s 56 worldwide locations. Customers also have different price points at which they can buy the Premium plan:
- One month is about $15
- One year is about $120, or $10 per month
- Two years is a total of roughly $130, breaking down to about $5.40 per month
All Things Considered
If you’re looking for an affordable VPN that offers stellar security, Hide.me could be an excellent option. The company clearly cares about protecting its users’ privacy, based on the various security features included. We also like the fact that the platform is straightforward to use. Even those without experience using VPNs should have no problem using this service. That said, those that are looking for more features, available servers and support, should consider ExpressVPN or Nord as alternatives.
However, to gain the full benefits of the VPN, you’ll need to purchase a Premium plan. The free plan offers the same security benefits, but you can only use it on one device at a time, and you cannot use it for video streaming due to the data cap. If you’re not interested in paying for a VPN, you may want to choose another service.
